What are safes made of?

What safes are made of: manufacturing and materials

It is wrong to believe that a vault for securities, jewelry and cash is just a metal cabinet with a door with a certain kind of lock. This is a simplified look at a structure that is actually multi-layered and made from special materials. By the way, they can vary greatly depending on the features of the safe - fire resistance, burglar resistance. There are also fire-and-burglar-resistant models. So the design and manufacture of each store are complex circuits and processes.

The walls of the safe are at least double, and their front part is additionally reinforced. The main material is sheet steel, its thickness completely affects the level of burglary resistance of the structure.

What does a safe consist of?

The reliability and inaccessibility of the storage facility depends on the technologies of its production. They directly affect the protection class of the manufactured models. An ordinary safe, which was previously a single-layer metal, is easy to blow up. But alloy steel is very resistant to high temperatures, and to the occurrence of rust, and to any mechanical stress.

The types of safes differ by class as follows:

●     from the first to the fifth grade - this is steel up to 29 mm thick;

●     first and second class - door 10 mm, walls - 55 mm, rolled and sheet steel is used in production (the latter is cut with a laser);

●     zero class - these are safes, the level of protection of which is sufficient for storing relatively inexpensive items, but which it is undesirable to leave freely available to all;

●     storages above class 5 - with walls up to 50 mm.

A reinforced steel safe is essentially a sandwich. The outer cladding is made of steel - about 2 mm, then - foamed concrete, inside - also cladding. It can be provided with a moisture-absorbing coating.

All storages are one in design:

●     cupboard;

●     door;

●     locking mechanism;

●     lock.

The elements of the safes are fastened by welding, and the models above the fourth class are based on a separate built-in frame - a specially manufactured supporting frame. And each door necessarily consists of several layers, and it always has a space designed for a lock.

The layer of concrete cushion is also noteworthy. It reaches 70 mm in models up to class 4. Class 4 and 5 safes are reinforced with 200 mm walls, the reinforced concrete layer of which occupies at least half of the structure.

So, a safe is a metal cabinet protected by concrete and other effective elements and coatings. The actual production of such a product is already difficult. There are several technologies for the manufacture of the concrete component, there are no clear rules, and the method of pumping it into the structure is complicated. And the high-class models themselves are distinguished by special parameters - dimensions, enormous weight, enhanced protection of locking mechanisms and, of course, cost. Such a safe - fire-and - burglar - resistant, armored - is a structure made of an external burglar-resistant shell containing a fire-resistant layer. The main thing is that the castle matches the level.

Types of safes by purpose

All safes, of course, are metal, steel. But some models are suitable for home, others for work . There are convenient, narrowly focused options:

●     furniture safes, which are installed inside furniture, cabinets, are lightweight, their steel part is about 3-5 mm;

●     office models can be small or reach a meter in height, in terms of protection class they usually do not exceed the first, they store securities, documentation;

●     built-in safes are ideal options for the home, they are compact, they are assembled by professionals using camouflage, the steel of such safes is supplemented with reinforced concrete, the wall thickness is up to 20 mm;

●     products for home and hotels are structures with an extremely simple system of use, in which documents or other things can be stored, they are compact in size and, as a rule, do not have a very high class of protection against fire and burglary, although it all depends on the specific purpose and the selected model;

●     weapon safes are completely separate, they are often made to order, they may not seem so reliable, belong to any class, but surpass others in burglary resistance.

What is the safe used for and where it will be located, what kind of lock you want to have - mechanical, electronic or combined - the choice of model depends on all these factors. Each repository has its own purpose.
